A few years ago one of my gym members challenged me to a hiking challenge.
After a year or two of climbing mountains together, my challenger had conquered 44.
I had only climbed 38.
I didn’t want to lose this challenge.
I had a master plan to hike a number of mountains over night to meet 42 mountains climbed.
My family was also down for the challenge..
So we packed up our things at night and began the trek.
On the first mountain my son and I were met with blustery winds and icy paths.
On my 3rd or so mountain, I take a wrong turn and end up climbing up the backside of the wrong mountain.
45 mins later I wake up.
I had fallen asleep against a tree along the path.
Now I was definitely behind schedule if I wanted to reach my goal of 42 mountains total.
I was sitting there trying to figure out what I should do.
I could push forward and finish the challenge.
I could stay where I’m at and get some sleep.
Or I could head back to the car and give up.
I decided to go forward and conquer the challenge.
This experience taught me a lesson I use regularly in my business practices.
Choosing to do nothing has consequences.
If were just pushing things off, the consequences will eventually catch up to us.
Take your decisions a little more seriously.Decide now and overcome the issue.
I tell this story on Episode 16 of the Level Up Your Gym Podcast, “The Trick To Better Decision Making “.
